Laura, abandoned as an infant on a riverbank, is found by Ana, who saves her by praying to a miraculous saint.  As an adult, the sweet and gentle Laura is driven to date the selfish and unscrupulous Henrique – but their relationship ends with the arrival of Miguel, an undercover priest who comes to investigate the supposed miracle of Laura’s rescue. During the investigation, Miguel and Laura fall in love, and Henrique tries to hinder their relationship. The lovers’ feelings, however, prove to be stronger than either the ex-boyfriend’s jealous ploys or the Church’s fierce prohibition. Ana, in turn, is overwhelmed by a possessive husband, and will fall in love with her doctor Escobar. This classic tale blends drama, romance, and comedy to show that love is still the greatest miracle.
