Globo TV International conquers Russia

Even before its official launch at NATPE 2010, ‘India – A Love Story’ arouse interest from programmers all around the world. Russia was the second country, after Romania, to buy the production. With the premiere expected in the first trimester of this year, the telenovela will be broadcast by channel Domashny, from the CTC group, which reaches more than 60 million viewers in the Moscow region. 


 “The Russian audience has given us prestige for a long time now. Since the 1990s our love stories are present on their TVs. We can highlight great successes such as ‘The King of Cattle’ and ‘Terra Nostra’ which were seen by thousands of people around the country. We are happy with the premiere of ‘India – A Love Story’ on Domashny. We know that the local audience will be enchanted by the telenovela by Gloria Perez”, says Raphael Correa Netto, Head of international sales at TV Globo.


Distributed internationally by Globo TV International, ‘India – A Love Story’ was the winner at the International Emmy Awards 2009 in the category for telenovelas. With more than US$ 50 millions of investment, this was the telenovela with the highest production cost in TV Globo history. There were more than 40 days of shooting in India and Dubai involving the main cast, apart from the reproduction of Indian landscapes such as the River Ganges and Rajasthan at Globo’s production center in Rio de Janeiro. The telenovela, when it was broadcast during primetime in Brazil, reached 81% of audience share for its final episode.   


The story, written by Gloria Perez, author of ‘The Clone’, tells of the differences between the cultural customs and traditions of Brazil and India. The central drama is based on the love triangle formed by Maya (Juliana Paes), Raj (Rodrigo Lombardi) and Bahuan (Marcio Garcia) and is set in the cities of India such as Jaipur, known as the “Pink City”, and Agra, famous for the Taj Mahal, Internationally recognized actors such as Tony Ramos (‘Belissima’) and Lima Duarte (‘Shades of Sin’) make up the cast of the telenovela.
