Winner at the International Emmy Awards 2009 for best telenovela, the drama ‘India – A Love Story’, which attained an audience share of 81%  for its last episode in Brazil, will now be aired in Ecuador on channel Ecuavisa, a partner with Globo TV International for over 15 years.

With an investment of US$50 million, this is the telenovela with the largest production cost in the history of TV Globo. There were more than 40 days of recording in India and Dubai, apart from the reproduction of Indian landscapes at Globo’s Production Center in Rio de Janeiro.

Three cinematographic cities were built covering more than 10,000 m2. The art direction reproduced 42 stores and a temple in homage to the Hindu God Shiva, with their respective interiors, as well as the facades and entrances of a cinema and of the homes of the characters. The Ganges River was also reproduced covering an area of 2,500m2 including one of the stair cases on its banks. The idea was to change the background images using a ‘back lot’, a type of ‘chroma key’ with greater depth, which gave a sensation that the scenes occurred in different locations and times of the day.

To represent a little of the Indian chaos, 12 rickshaws were built, which are a type of chariot pulled by a person or a bike, as well as eight tuk-tuks, three wheeled motorized vehicles. Also all the signs and labels of the products sold in the stores were all written in Hindi.

The story, written by Gloria Perez, author of ‘The Clone’, is a gripping tale of tradition facing a new era and the power of love to overcome all obstacles. It’s set in the cities of India such as Jaipur, known as the “Pink City”, and Agra, famous for the Taj Mahal and boasts internationally recognized actors such as Tony Ramos (‘Family Ties’) and Lima Duarte (‘Shades of Sin’).
‘India – A Love Story’ is one of the bets for NATPE 2010. The distributor will be in conference room F, 3rd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel.
