The telenovela Paradise City, which tells the story of a “saintly girl´s” impossible love for the “son of the devil”, premieres on the 14th of this month at 6pm on SIC  in Portugal.

With a sophisticated production and an atmospheric soundtrack, the show, which is still airing in Brazil with good audience numbers (xxx%), is yet another big investment by TV Globo, ensuring that its telenovelas take over an increasingly larger part of the international market.

Paradise City´s plot includes political intrigues, delves into agricultural and land issues and calls attention to deforestation, showing the arrival of progress in the small town of Paraíso. These main themes feature romantic affairs, town fairs, gossip and “tall tales” that would be told around a campfire. The show is an adaptation of the original text from Benedito Rui Barbosa by Edmara Barbosa with the collaboration of Edilene Barbosa.

Paradise City was shot in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Rio de Janeiro and features Eriberto Leão  (Zeca), Nathalia Dill (Maria Rita), Mauro Mendonça (Godói) and Cassia Kiss (Mariana).

The “saintly girl” is raised to be a nun, and from early childhood is sought by masses of believers looking for a miracle. Zeca is reputed to be the “son of the devil” because of his father, the farmer Euletério, a great storyteller who is rumored to keep a small devil inside a bottle.

The town´s people gave the boy this name as his mother died at childbirth right after the bottle arrived at the family home, bringing “Bad energy” to the household .  The boy grows up and turns out to be a great adventurer who likes to defy death.  The young people end up meeting on the outskirts and after their first glance at each other their lives turn out to be entwined for ever.
