The telenovela ‘The Favorite‘ premiered in Latin America on Monday, the 27th of July. Canal Wapa (from Puerto Rico) and Canal 13 (from Chile) have already started airing the telenovela. This is just the first of a series of debuts for the telenovela in the region. Still in its second semester, this year it‘s slated to be broadcast in more than 10 countries, such as Ecuador, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Paraguay, among others. During its exhibition on TV Globo in 2008, ‘The Favorite‘ was the audience leader in its time slot, registering 46 points and 65% of the share, according to Ibope figures.
Written by João Emanuel Carneiro, author of ‘Shades of Sin‘ – sold to more than 100 countries - ‘The Favorite‘ unravels the rivalry between Flora (Patrícia Pillar, from ‘Little Missy‘) and Donatela (Claudia Raia, from ‘Seven Sins‘), old partners in a country music duo. After spending 18 years in prison for the murder of Donatela‘s husband, Flora leaves prison wanting to prove her innocence, accusing her ex-partner of committing the crime. At the same time, she wants to get closer to her daughter Lara (Mariana Ximenes, from ‘Pepper Chocolate’, who was raised by her rival. Lara is the only heir to a paper mill empire and is in the middle of the dispute between the two characters.
‘The Favorite‘ has many well-known actors in its cast like Murílio Benício (‘The Clone’), Deborah Secco (‘America’), Juliana Paes (‘Family Ties’), Thiago Rodrigues (‘Pages of Life’), Lilia Cabral (‘Pages of Life’), Mariana Ximenes (‘Pepper Chocolate’), Taís Araújo (‘Shades of Sin’), Claudia Raia (‘Seven Sins’’), Patricia Pillar (‘Little Missy’) and Tarcísio Meira (‘Her Own Destiny’), among others.
