This week, the TV Globo telenovela ‘India: A Love Story‘ broke a new record, reaching 43 audience points, the equivalent of 65% of the TV sets switched on during the broadcast time slot, with its last level being 42 points. Aired during prime time, the episode showed Raul (Alexandre Borges, from ‘Forbidden Desire‘) being abandoned by Yvone (Letícia Sabatella, from ‘The Clone’), his lover, who also left with all his money.
 
‘India: A Love Story‘ was launched in Brazil in January this year. The telenovela shows, as its main plot, the forbidden love affair between two young people from different backgrounds. Maya Meetha (Juliana Paes, from ‘The Favorite’ and ‘Family Ties‘) is happy and intelligent, works in a call center in Rajastan, and belongs to a traditional family from the merchant caste. Bahuan (Marcio Garcia, from ‘Evil Angel’) is studying in the United States, employed in an American company, but he can never forget the humiliation he suffered in his childhood as an ‘untouchable‘ - a section of humanity that the sacred texts define as ‘the dust at the feet of Brahma‘: those considered impure and condemned to never even let their shadow touch someone of a higher caste. This system was banned by law, but continues in everyday customs.
 
Written by Glória Perez, author of the international success ‘The Clone‘, the original 2001 production was sold to 90 countries and will have an exclusive adaptation for the Hispanic market in the USA by Telemundo Network. ‘India: A Love Story was initially filmed in beautiful and symbolic locations in India, such as Jaipur, known as the Pink City, and Agra, famous for the Taj Mahal. With this production, TV Globo, maintains its strategy of producing telenovelas using international locations that reinforce the universal quality of its productions.
