Reinforcing its strategy of offering the market a diversified portfolio of products, Globo TV International closed new deals to broadcast its comedy and drama series in Latin American countries. The deals were signed with channels from Argentina, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru.

One of the contracts was with Channel 7, one of the main Argentinian public broadcasters, which will show the series ‘City of Men’. A success in Brazil, the production brings to the screen the adventures of two adolescents, Laranjinha and Acerola, inseparable friends who live in a poor region of Rio de Janeiro. Together, they learn to deal with the common problems of the world, like drug trafficking, lack of money, and the relationship of the middle class with the inhabitants of the favela.

Viewers in Honduras will also be able to watch series from the Brazilian broadcaster. The channel Vica TV recently acquired ‘The Cleaning Lady’ and ‘Normal People’, programs that have made Brazilians laugh for years. Presenting the confusions of a nutty maid in the different houses that she works in, ‘The Cleaning Lady’’ is a funny and versatile production that has already been sold to countries like Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Bolivia. ‘Normal People’ is a modern comedy that laughs at the abnormality that is hidden away in the life of an apparently normal couple. It was so successful with audiences in Brazil that it became a feature-length film and a box-office hit.

And the series ‘Normal People’ is also one of the good bets for other Latin American channels in 2009. In addition to Honduran Vica TV, Globo TV International marketed the comedy to Equavisa, from Ecuador; Telle Antillas, from the Dominican Republic; ATV from Peru; and Cerro Corá from Paraguay. "We believe strongly in the strategy of offering our partners a wide ranging portfolio, made by a producer of varied genres. The new contracts for broadcasting our new series in Latin American countries are important steps in this direction," confirms Raphael Corrêa Netto, director of International Sales at Globo TV International.
