The exuberant landscape of the African continent will be the stage for ‘Caras & Bocas’, a TV Globo telenovela that debuts on Brazilian screens in April. With initial scenes filmed in South Africa, the production will take viewers through the love affair of Dafne and Gabriel, two people with strong personalities and from different social classes, but capable of falling passionately in love.

In order to guarantee the artistic and technical quality of ‘Caras & Bocas’, TV Globo sent a group of 27 professionals - among them, nine actors. The filming relied on a South African team of approximately 25 people, including local producers and technical teams.

In Africa,  the team got on the road at 5am, to travel to the locations. In the intervals between film shoots, the professionals responsible for the costume design and art production researched local businesses to expand on the “safari look”, created especially for the scenes that take place in South Africa, that will be shown in the first week of the telenovela.

The first filming was shot in Cullinan, a small city 30 km from the capital Pretoria. The actors filmed in a diamond mine, which in the production is called Conti, and belongs to one of the characters in the drama. The second, third and fourth days were in Hartbeespoort, where the scenes of a balloon safari were initially shot. On the following day, the filming started in “The Elephant Sanctuary”  and later, the team continued on to the “Glen Afric” park.

On the last day in Hartbeespoort, the group returned to “Glen Afric” to shoot the safari scenes. For the scene in which the characters catch sight of a lion from the car, the technical team were positioned in two cages in the middle of the vegetation. The whole scene was accompanied by a park professional, responsible for handling the lion. On the same day, the team moved on to Sun City, with a stop in the “Predator World” zoo.

During the last four days, the filming occurred at Sun City, the Lost City - among the locations inside of this tourist complex were the six star hotel The Palace, the Kwena Garden crocodile park and the elephants‘ bridge. Some scenes were also shot in the Pilanesberg reserve, which is  half an hour from Sun City.
