13 March, 2009

From the end of this month, the habits and customs of life in the countryside will be given special attention on screens all over Brazil. On the 16th of March, TV Globo, one of the largest producers of content in Latin America, is launching the telenovela ‘Paraíso‘ in its programming, in which Brazilian rural life is used as the backdrop to portray a great love story.
An adaptation to the production of the same name by Benedito Ruy Barbosa (‘Terra Nostra’) - originally shown by TV Globo in 1982 - the plot of ‘Paraíso‘ centers around the love between the "son of the devil", Zé Eleutério, and the saint, Maria Rita – daughter of Antero Godói and Mariana. The girl was raised to be a nun and since childhood was harassed by other people in search of miracles. José Eleutério was famous for being the "son of the devil" on account of his father, the farmer Eleutério, a great teller of tales, and who was known for keeping a small devil in a bottle. This nickname was born out of the town folk‘s imagination, as his mother died during childbirth after the famous bottle arrived at the family‘s house. The production relies on actors like Vanessa Giácomo and Mauro Mendonça from ‘Cabocla’, which was sold to 16 countries, and Reginaldo Faria from ‘América’, sold to 33 countries.
To guarantee that country life is portrayed faithfully on screen, ‘Paraíso‘ uses images filmed in the countryside of the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Rio de Janeiro, and that show all the beauty and diversity characteristic of this region in the country. In accordance with the production‘s director, Rogério Gomes, the total dedication of the production team and the constant trips made through the locations were fundamental, so that the new telenovela could rely on the high technical and artistic level presented. "We overcame various obstacles to be able to capture some scenes in places that were difficult to access. But it was worth the effort, because the end result was very good", he confirmed.
Launch
For the official launch and presentation of Paraíso to the Brazilian press on the 3rd March, TV Globo prepared a large event, where the rural ambiance was present in every detail. The setting couldn‘t be different: portraying Eleutétrio‘s farm, with all the characteristics of a country house and typical food from the Brazilian countryside. Displaying emotion, Benedito Ruy Barbosa, remembered the first edition of the production and spoke of his pleasure in writing this story. "This production portrays love as it must be, with respect and greatness". Before presenting the clip with the first images of the telenovela, the author praised the selection of the cast and said that each actor is in exactly the right role.
